"Black Box" Lecture - Shadows

When looking at the lecture on shadows, it made me think about if and how to use them as a part of the design. Just looking at the titles of the 5 books, the first and third books jumped out at me.

'The Shadow as Threshold'

and

'The Shadow as Refuge"

In every day life we use the shadow of buildings to tell us where to sit, when either we want to be warm, or cooler, or avoid glare etc.

By incorporating large openings and structures into the laboraties, which provides large patches of sun and shade, the clients are able to move around as the sun moves through the sky, and as seasons change, to work in their preferred environment. I'm seeking to provide sharp thresholds of shade / sun, where the clients can seek refuge in either, as the seasons require.
